Where to Stay in Paris on a Budget 2024? Top Affordable Accommodation Picks

You still haven’t visited Paris, the city of love? This metropolis hides the two most visited European tourist attractions, intertwining them with a lot of history, art and fashion.

Today, this city is mainly recognized by the Eiffel Tower, which, believe it or not, was not even intended to be placed here. Thanks to how the events turned out, it’s now the most important landmark of the city, inviting millions of visitors each year.

However, don’t let this 300-metre attraction convince you it’s the only thing worth seeing here. In fact, there are so many other visit- and experience-worthy things, available for each traveller.

Yes, even for those who want to travel cheap and wonder where to stay in Paris on a budget!

So, if you thought that Paris was only cute streets, the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre, let me also introduce you to the River Seine, its islands, and the rich history of the Notre Dame Cathedral. Another interesting fact about Paris is there are numerous underground catacombs, some of which are even open to the public.

Here is the question: Where to stay in Paris on a budget?

The answer is simple: Belleville

If you want an answer to where to stay in Paris for cheap, settle in Belleville.

This used to be a small village, until the frequent visitors turned it into one of the most preferable neighbourhoods, especially for those travelling on a budget. Here, you have different types of accommodation, from shared hostel rooms and Airbnb to room rentals within a private home.

Apart from being home to the best cheap hotels in Paris, you don’t have to worry about transport while staying here; metro number 11 takes you to all the famous central attractions in 10-15 minutes.

Here are some attractions you can visit for free in this part of the city:

  • Parc de Belleville
  • Le Studio de l’Ermitage
  • Rue de Belleville
  • La Bellevilloise
  • Belleville Cemetery

Why do I recommend these areas?

Le Studio de l’Ermitage is a music venue located at 8 Rue de l’Ermitage, which often has live music performances, including jazz, world music, and other genres. Here you will have a good time without spending a fortune.

Rue de Belleville is a vibrant street known for its diverse atmosphere, lined with shops, cafes, and restaurants reflecting the multicultural character of the area.

La Bellevilloise will win your heart with an artistic space located at 19-21 Rue Boyer and a multi-purpose venue housed in a former workers’ cooperative.

Belleville Cemetery (Cimetière de Belleville) is the most important gem in this quarter and the most famous cemetery in the world, where Oscar Wilde and Jim Morison are buried.

2. Best Neighborhood to Stay in Paris

Belleville

Welcome to Belleville, the 20th Paris arrondissement I’ve already mentioned. This super affordable place is known for its mix of cultures. Here, all the locals are kind and helpful making your stay unforgettable. Apart from the excellent range of budget accommodation and fantastic transport to the centre, this is the place to try the food. Local markets and eateries have reasonably priced meals with a unique traditional flair. This part of the city is generally known for its lower cost of living, and the authentic local experience is priceless.

Latin Quarter (Quartier Latin)

By itself, this neighbourhood has a unique blend of history and sophistication. Sorbonne University is also located here, so the neighbourhood has a positive, youthful energy. The Latin Quarter will never disappoint you when it comes to food, offering crispy baguettes that are simply a must-try.

Since it is pretty close to the centre, you won’t need long drives. You can find accommodation at much more favourable prices than in other districts. And if you are a student, remember to ask about the discounts you’re entitled to regarding transit tickets or accommodation in the boarding school.

Montmartre

In Montmartre, you have so many cheap attractions and things to do. And even if you have to pay for something, it won’t cost you a fortune.

So you can take part in a spontaneous street performance or an open painting class. Take a walk and challenge yourself to find all the hidden parks and gardens, and the winner will be the one who finds the vineyard in the middle of such an urban place. One hint to get started: start with Square Marcel Blenstein-Blanched. If you can spare some of your budget, go to Agile Cabaret or Place du Tertre.

Although Montmartre is not the cheapest quarter and the first answer to the question, Where to stay in Paris on a budget? I still recommend you to book on time and get rid of worries.

République

This is another cost-effective place to stay, close to cultural attractions. This part of the city is best connected by metro, with numbers 3, 5, 8, and 9, and the whole ride takes only 10-50 minutes. Apart from getting to know the diverse cultural scene, hop over to the street food stalls and don’t hesitate to try. I highly recommend the street food here.
